Renee Helen Blockey, 44, will be eligible for parole on Thursday, instead of in January after successfully appealing her sentence.

The mother-of-four was sentenced to nine years' jail in November after pleading guilty to manslaughter over the stabbing of John Windle in 2018 on Macleay Island, off southeast Queensland.

Blockey was both a victim and a perpetrator of domestic violence, Supreme Court Justice John Bond said in handing down his sentence last year.

He found Blockey had stabbed Mr Windle after he pursued her into her home, "with a degree of aggressive intent, and after he had, at some stage, punched or slapped (Blockey) causing a bruise and some bleeding", according to a Queensland Appeal Court judgment handed down on Wednesday.

The couple's relationship - often fuelled by alcohol and drugs - was volatile from just two weeks after they met in November 2017.

But on April 23, 2018, Blockey stabbed Mr Windle with a hunting knife she kept in her bedside table.

Two weeks earlier, she told a friend she had a knife named Kitty she would use to stab Mr Windle if he kept accusing her of sleeping with other men.

The pair's argument that day started after they got home-brewed rum from a friend about 10am.

Neighbours heard yelling from Blockey's house where the two had returned after drinking.

A postman delivering mail about midday told police he saw Blockey covered in blood in the doorway, calling frantically for an ambulance as someone was "bleeding out".

Inside the house, the postman saw Mr Windle lying on the floor in a pool of blood. He was moaning while Blockey was crying and holding him.

Asked what happened, she told the postman: "I stabbed him."

Mr Windle died from blood loss after receiving a 16cm deep stab wound, inflicted with a "moderate to severe degree of force", below his left collar bone.

Blockey later told officers Mr Windle had angrily accused her of drinking all the home-brew and of being unfaithful.

Friends of Mr Windle erupted in court after Blockey was sentenced,, shouting death threats after learning she could be released within two years.

"I'll be in jail next week and I'll kill you," one woman yelled as she left the courtroom.

Blockey was to serve at least three years and nine months behind bars, but appealed, saying it was manifestly excessive because of the requirement she serve more than one third of the sentence in actual custody.

Three Appeal Court judges said the nine-year jail term properly reflected Blockey's criminality.

"However, the applicant's sincere and obvious remorse, and her significant steps towards rehabilitation against a background of a timely plea of guilty, support a conclusion that the applicant ought to receive a parole eligibility date fixed after having served three years of that sentence," the published judgment says.
