Ask yourself this. Are you as effective as you want to be, or in fact need to be, in your current leadership role?
In a prepared speech that former US president John F Kennedy never quite got the chance to give in Dallas, Texas, he would have said the phrase "leadership and learning are indispensable to each other".
The point being that we should never stop learning, no matter how far up the hierarchy we have ascended.
Also of interest, a Grovo study in the USA revealed that "mid-level managers said more than two out of five of their company's managers, on average, were unprepared for management when they assumed their role, and that less than half of managers are highly effective".
Further, that study also found that a staggering 87 percent of middle managers "wished they had received more management training when they first became a manager."
Canberra-based business Black Bull Performance Group say the numbers in Australia aren't much different. The group also says that they are leading the charge in creating functional leaders not only in Australia, but internationally as well.
One key distinction they illustrate is that between leading and managing.
