It's the third time the Canberra aerial skier was named Snow Australia's athlete of the year for Olympic disciplines, sharing it with snowboard cross team Belle Brockhoff and Jarryd Hughes in Melbourne on Thursday night.

It caps off a stunning year for Peel, who became the first Australian to win two world titles in March - this year's win adding to her victory in 2015.

The 31-year-old also claimed back-to-back crystal globes for being the overall champion of the aerial skiing season.

She won gold medals at the World Cups in Finland and Russia, as well as finishing on two other podiums.

Peel will now have her sights set on next year's Winter Olympic Games in Beijing, which would be her third Games.

Brockhoff and Hughes teamed up to create history, winning gold in the first ever snowboard cross teams event at the world championships - with the event making it's Winter Olympic debut next year.

Peel's coaches Mich Roth and Dave Morris were named joint coach of the year for Olympic disciplines.

Para snowboarder Ben Tudhope was named athlete of the year for Paralympic disciplines, winning gold and silver medals during the World Cup season.

His coach Par Sundqvist took home the gong for Paralympic disciplines coach of the year as well, while snowboard halfpipe young gun Valentino Guseli was named junior athlete of the year.
