Canberra's own DJ Sue Freeman is living her best life, feted in Melbourne this week by a local FM radio station who flew her in to supply the tracks at an exclusive event.
Melbourne FM radio station KIIS101.1 was so enamoured of DJ Sue that the breakfast show launched a competition for listeners to have her play at their own gig.
The winners were a local couple, Steph and Andrew, who secured DJ Sue to man the decks at their baby shower in Melbourne on Tuesday night, getting the backyard crowd pumping with feelgood hits, from YMCA to Mr. Brightside.
"I still can't believe it," Sue said, back home in Canberra on Thursday.
"It's crazy, my life's gone crazy. But I had the best time in Melbourne."
DJ Sue, from Calwell, was put up for two nights in the Hilton in Melbourne, ferried to the baby shower in a stretch Hummer and given her own tricked-up denim jacket for the gig. Footage from the Hummer shows DJ Sue having a wonderful time with champagne - and a packet of Arnotts Assorted Creams.
"Just the good stuff," breakfast co-host Jase Hawkins joshed. "One hundred per cent street grade."
But she was having none of that. "I've got to save up for the scones and jam and cream," she laughed. The jam and cream were on ice in the Hummer BTW. They also made her try to do the worm on the floor of the limo.
The almost-grandma (grandchild No.1 is on the way) is just enjoying her best life.
The radio station secured her for the Tuesday night gig to fit in with her part-time day job, Proactive Air Conditioning in Fyshwick. She was back to work on Thursday, still riding high from her adventure.
"I was treated like royalty and the gig went really well. It was so much fun," she said.
Announcer Jase Hawkins certainly enjoyed it all.
"This is probably one of the best nights of my life," he said, at the gig.
