A BMW crashed into a Corolla when it had to swerve back on to the correct side of the road to narrowly avoid a head-on collision after trying to overtake, police say.

Police said the incident happened on Badimara Street, Waramanga about 2pm on Saturday.
They said the BMW tried to overtake the Toyota Corolla.
"Police allege the BMW then hit the Corolla when it swerved back onto the correct side of the road, to avoid a black vehicle travelling in the opposite direction," they said in a statement.
"The black car is described as being a small sedan or hatchback."

Acting Superintendent of ACT Road Policing Donna Hofmeier said a small accident could have serious consequences and could result in serious injuries or death.
"Acting aggressively on the road is incredibly dangerous behaviour that puts yourself and others at considerable risk," Acting Superintendent Hofmeier said.
