Just like any new cafe, there's a buzz at The Nest, customers are chatting amongst themselves, the Red Brick coffee is brewing, the delicious treats are on display, the only difference here is that The Nest is located within Evatt Primary School.

An old classroom has been turned into a hip new spot, part cafe, part community hub, and there's more to do there than just enjoy a coffee and croissant.
Evatt Primary principal Michael Hatswell says the cafe is an opportunity to foster a sense of community between the school and their families with the aim to benefit the student learning experience.
"We know parents and carers play a big part in the education of their children which is why we want to work in partnership with families," Hatswell says.
"Now we can bring them into a space where we are working together with them. We know and believe it has a significant effect on their children, schooling and home life."
The Nest was created by the school's P&C with the help of a $20,000 grant from the ACT government's Supporting Parents Engagement Grants Program last year.
Each morning, parents are encouraged to come in and read with their children in an effort to change the usual pick-up-drop-off attitude and bolster reading development both at school and home.
With an abundance of books lined up against the walls, comfortable seating and coffee for the parents, it's the perfect spot to do it.
School vice-captain William Ramsay said the cafe had a few roles.
"It's a good program where young kids can come and read with their parents," he said.
"And it's great for kids to come in here in the morning so they aren't just sitting outside in the cold."
The space was designed with the help of last year's students from grades four to six.
"It was really good because they asked us what we would use the space for and what we'd like to see here," vice-captain Corrina Robey said.
The area is also used for other programs affiliated with the school and outside partnerships. Thursday mornings there's a giggle and wiggle program run by Libraries ACT for toddlers and parents.
"They are the future students that will most likely come to this school," Hatswell said.
"So we're investing in them now to improve their readiness for schooling down the track."
The space is also used by the school's P&C for meetings, school events and workshops from the school's community partners and part of the space is also used for the uniform shop.
