The Canberra Raiders five-eighth loved the experience of playing the series opener in Townsville on Wednesday, where the Blues thrashed Queensland 50-6.

Wighton wasn't getting too carried away with the romp, pointing out they hadn't won anything yet ahead of Origin II at Lang Park on June 27.

He confirmed he would back up in the Raiders game against the Brisbane Broncos at Canberra Stadium on Saturday, having played just 16 minutes off the bench.

There were 27,533 mostly Maroons fans in the Far North Queensland venue, giving Wighton hope one day the same could happen in the ACT.

But it would need a new Civic Stadium to have any chance of happening - something the ACT government have had on the agenda for years.

"It was an awesome experience taking it up to Townsville. They love their footy up there," Wighton said.

"There wasn't many Blues in the stadium, but it was an awesome experience.

"I hope Canberra can get a big enough stadium one day to host things like that and it's not questionable then - we'll be able to get some good events like that."

Wighton wasn't looking to bring the Blues' buzz back from Townsville with him - he was just bringing himself.

The Dally M Medallist learnt the importance of everyone doing their job - something he said was crucial in the NSW destruction of the Maroons.

Canberra were looking to turn their season around against the Broncos, after winning just one of their past eight games.

While they sit 13^th on the NRL ladder, Wighton was seeing their glass half full - they're just two wins outside the eight with a game in hand on eighth-placed St George Illawarra.

"Just bring myself back mate. Hopefully the boys had a good rest and are all rejuvenated and ready to go," he said.

"Being in camp taught me one thing - it's a team sport. Every single player from the boys leading us out to the boys not even playing.

"It's a group win, that's probably something it's taught me, so we're all going to have to buy in if we're going to change the tide for the rest of the season.

"You look at the glass as half full. We'll try and rack up a couple of wins and it will change the whole vibe and mood around the place."

Wighton will slot into the halves alongside Sam Williams, with the pair coming up against Broncos five-eighth Karmichael Hunt.

It will be Hunt's first NRL game since he played fullback for the Broncos in 2009.

Twenty-eight-year-old Wighton hadn't even made his NRL debut before Hunt had gone off to play AFL and then rugby union.

Wighton played a few roles for the Blues in his two stints off the bench.

First he came on to allow Nathan Cleary to get his nasty facial gash stitched up after he copped a stray elbow from NSW teammate Tom Trbojevic.

Then he came on for the final 12 minutes to play a couple of roles on the left edge.

"I think I came on in the back row and then played a little bit of left half when he put [Jarome Luai] into hooker to give [Damien Cook] a spell," Wighton said.

"Just a little bit of everywhere mate.

"Loved it, loved it, everytime I get to pull the jersey on I loved it.

"I'll definitely back it up. I pulled up fine. I only played 16-17 minutes. The body's still alright and the head's good so I'll be ready to go with the boys."
