The ACT Homicide team is seeking any witnesses or dash cam footage from the evening. It would help them track the movements of at least two offenders, one of whom shot and killed a 48-year-old man at the door of his Mansfield Place unit in Connorville Gardens about 11.45pm on June 10.

The weekend line search involving general duties, police maritime, and search and rescue officers was held over on the Mawson side of Yarralumla Creek, below the unit complex where the man was murdered.

Police have not released the victim's identity, nor are they willing to speculate on a possible motive.

They are also not commenting on the type of firearm used although if a casing was ejected, investigators would have recovered it and the ballistics team would have determined whether the weapon used was missing or stolen, and if so, from where.

Forensic crime scene investigators were at the scene most of Friday, June 11 and it is understood that the investigation team has taken a number of witness statements.

How the offenders approached the unit complex is still part of the investigation although forensics markers placed on Ainsworth Avenue, the street above the complex, suggest that police suspect the murderers most likely arrived in a vehicle, parked it on the left side of the thoroughfare facing Hindmarsh Drive, and walked down into the complex using a stairway and path which runs between the townhouses.

The complex is poorly lit with established, overhanging trees which would have provided good cover for people entering late at night and hoping to avoid detection.

The complex also has multiple entry points and unclear unit identification, although the assailants clearly knew which unit to find.

There is very little CCTV within the complex but there is on surrounding streets because of the close proximity of Canberra Hospital, businesses within Phillip, embassies and even the point-to-point speed cameras on Hindmarsh Drive.

There are also traffic cameras on the intersections of Hindmarsh and Athllon, Hindmarsh and Yamba, and Hindmarsh and Melrose drives.

Given police know the brief "window" of time in which the shooting occurred, these cameras may provide important leads.

Homicide investigators are offering very few details about the incident but it appears likely that the assailants knocked on the door and when the victim answered, fired one shot, quite likely at point blank range, and then fled.

A woman also in the downstairs unit at the time of the shooting was uninjured.

The cold-blooded Phillip shooting came four days after federal police released details about Operation Ironside, Australia's biggest and most successful intelligence-gathering investigation focused mostly on drug importation and distribution, and associated money-laundering.
