Students at Canberra High School painted a road crossing outside their school on Bindubi Street because officials had failed to do so.
A spokesperson for the movement told The Canberra Times reporter that the group had met at 5am to paint a white crossing. Whilst doing so, the traffic during the morning had been stopping for the students. The movement was planning to organise members to patrol the crossing in the mornings and afternoons.
A spokesperson for the Department of the Capital Territory said that road marking without authority was illegal but the department had planned an official crossing in the area.
Meanwhile, another crossing was under way from Bega to Canberra. Two ambulances and a four-wheel-drive vehicle were used to transport an eight-week-old girl through floods, 230 kilometres from Bega to Canberra Hospital.
She was being sent to Canberra for a routine check after dehydration from gastroenteritis.
