The Canberra Raiders outside back is going to have plenty of time to achieve his goal having signed a two-year extension.
Teammate Sebastian Kris has also re-signed with the Green Machine for the next three years.
Savage had a memorable debut against St George Illawarra, which was unfortunately cut short because the 18th man had been illegally brought on.
The Raiders will be fined $5000 for their mistake, with Savage now looking for his next chance.
He was on a development contract, but will be elevated to the top 30 for the next two years.
Savage revealed Raiders coach Ricky Stuart was remorseful about the 18th man mix-up.
"He was very apologetic after the game and I was just telling him everyone makes mistakes, stuff happens and there's nothing we can do about it now, we can't go back and change it," he said.
"It was no one's fault, it just happened. I was happy I still got a taste of it and I'm working towards the next job and hopefully I get a legal debut."
MORE RAIDERS NEWS
Kris has enjoyed a stunning return to the Raiders fold.
He missed all of last year due to mental health issues, but returned to pre-season on a train-and-trial deal.
The 22-year-old was so impressive on the training track he earned himself a one-year deal for the 2021 NRL season.
Now, having played 13 games this year, Kris will be in lime green for the next three years.
It was lucky the Raiders had last weekend off for State of Origin because it took Kris half a week to get over a poke in the eye he suffered against the Dragons - the same poke that led to Savage's introduction.
"It's been great, onward and upward really. No back steps, nothing bad has come, touch wood," Kris said of his journey over the past year.
"I've just been very grateful and very happy the last six to eight months.
"It took me about three or four days [for my eye] to fully recover. I had a scratch inside of my eyelid, which was irritating me quite a lot.
"I just did what I needed to do and recovered well."
