Works will see the existing playground in Butmaroo Street revamped and expanded.
It will be adventure-style and is expected to be finished towards the end of the year.
The playground will be suitable for a range of ages and abilities. The local community has had input into the design, which may be tweaked along the way.
The council this week learned it would receive $895,370 under the Bushfire Local Economic Recovery Fund for the playground.
The local community, through a volunteer committee, has been working closely with the council.
It follows the popular revamped playground in Braidwood.
