James made the mid-season move from NSW NPL side Wollongong Wolves FC after he was handed a 13-match suspension for serious violent conduct in October 2020.
The attacker came on for his first game in eight months in the 66th minute before he was shown a red in the 73rd minute for stamping on Monaro's David Jenkins.
He was handed a five-match suspension for violent conduct but Capital Football confirmed they were investigating the ensuing brawl that followed in the tunnel.
"Capital Football is aware of the incident. It is being investigated in accordance with the disputes and disciplinary regulations," a spokesperson said.
"While it is still an active investigation, Capital Football will not be making any further comments."
The day after the incident, the association launched its new RESPECT campaign to reduce abuse towards referees, coaches, players, volunteers and staff.
