Caporn spent seven years as head of Australian basketball's Centre of Excellence at the AIS, and becomes the fifth coach in the Long Island franchise's five-year history. Nets general manager Matt Riccardi said he was excited to have Caporn on board.
"Adam's accomplished record of developing players and driving culture on the international, professional and amateur levels has prepared him well to lead the Long Island Nets," Riccardi said. The Long Island Nets act as a feeder team for NBA giants Brooklyn, who relocated to New York City from New Jersey in 2012.
Caporn's immediate focus is on the Tokyo Games in his role as Boomers assistant coach.
The 39-year-old Caporn played for six years as a professional in Australia and New Zealand, before transitioning into coaching. In 2009 he simultaneously juggled assistant coach responsibilities at the Willetton Tigers while playing for the Perth Wildcats.
