1. The Resilience Project
Do you want to have a laugh and pick up some helpful wellbeing tips along the way? Hugh van Cuylenburg, best-selling author and co-host of the popular podcast, the imperfects, is coming in town this week with The Resilience Project. Hugh's goal is to make the topic of mental health more accessible and build resilience. This talk will delve into the key pillars proven to cultivate positive emotion; gratitude, empathy and mindfulness. Saturday, 7pm. Canberra Theatre Centre. 2. Wine Appreciation
The perfect excuse to indulge in some fine wine, good food and excellent conversation has arrived. This is a fuss-free introduction to the Canberra wine scene. With a carefully selected range of quality local wines, you will get the opportunity to learn about the essential elements of wine, how it is created and how to ensure your next dinner party is a success. This Pique-Nique class is the perfect occasion to learn something new, all whilst having a glass of wine in your hand. Saturday, 1pm. The Canberra Wine House. Tickets are $90 from pique-nique.
3. All Dogs Bark
Want an activity to get the kids out of the house? Head on down to the Book Cow in Kingston to help Canberra author Catherine Meatheringham launch her second children's book All Dogs Bark. If you want to take along your four-legged friends, there is a 12pm session for you and your dog. Hosted outside the Book Cow it is the perfect opportunity for everyone to get some fresh air and bark along to what is sure to become a new family favourite. If you would rather stay cosy and warm head along to the 10am or 2pm sessions inside the Book Cow and bring along your favourite toy dog to immerse yourself in the experience. 4. Smith's Alternative
Smith's Alternative has all your music needs sorted this weekend.
Begin the weekend with a bang when four local bands take to the stage for Band Beng Bing Bong on Friday. The Amateurs, The Schennos, Tantrum and the New Look Citizens will be performing. Friday, 8pm. Tickets from $10 from Smith's Alternative.
Want a chance to dress up? Drag Cabaret is back and bringing the best boho underground show with them on Saturday. For a night of circus, bawdy burlesque, daring drag, punks and spunks, get yourself down to Smith's. Saturday, 8.30pm and 10.30pm. Tickets are $20 from Smith's Alternative.
Don't just want to just sit and listen to the music then Sunday's jam session is for you. Local band Pachamama is having a Latin American Jam Session at Smith's. Learn to sing in Spanish, play some hand percussion, or join in on your own instrument. This event is open to all ages and levels. Sunday, 1pm. Smith's Alternative. 5. Blak Love
Come and have a yarn on Sunday with other queer people of colour, whilst enjoying a beautiful showcase of artworks and creating works of art yourself. Blak Love is an expression of different forms of love for mob. That love may be love of self, family, community, platonic/romantic/sexual/sensual partners, and/or country. This is an event for Blak queer people, but allies who are invited to attend are also welcome. This meeting of queerness and culture sets the stage for an opportunity to express your unique selfhood and love. Sunday, 12.30pm. AGA House, Lyneham. Register at Eventbrite.
