The new high school will be located on Lanyon Drive, in close proximity to Jerrabomberra Public School.
More than $29 million has been allocated to the construction of the new school, as part of the NSW government's 2020-2021 Budget. Initially it will have room for up to 500 students, with room for more as the region grows.
Deputy Premier and Member for Monaro John Barilaro said students will be sitting down in classrooms on day one, term one, 2023.
"No longer will our children be facing the long commute across the border to school into the ACT," Mr Barilaro said.
He said as a parent and a resident he knew how important it was for the region.
Mr Barilaro's daughter landed him in hot water last week when she breached COVID-19 restrictions. She will not face fines from ACT police.
The 4.5 hectare site for the new school has been dedicated to the the Department of Education through a voluntary planning agreement.
NSW Education Minister Sarah Mitchell said the department had now lodged its environmental assessment application request, an important step in the statutory approvals process of the school.
"I'm thrilled to see this progress towards building the new high school in Jerrabomberra," Ms Mitchell said.
The school will be primarily manufactured off-site, the building components assembled on the block on Environa Drive, to allow for its fast-tracked delivery.
