Bernabo-Madrid leads the NPL with 11 goals, following his side's 2-0 win over West Canberra Wanderers on Saturday. The striker found the back of the net for his side's second goal of the game to allow them more breathing room in the top four.

United's first came after Domenic Giampaolo turned his defender in the midfield and split the Wanderers defence to find the feet of NPL veteran Misko Naumoski in the 14^th minute. He calmly slotted the ball, first time, into the bottom right hand corner from the edge of the box to claim a 1-0 lead.

Gungahlin coach Marcial Munoz said it was a much needed win to ensure his side stayed in touch with the top four.

"We had a really good performance last weekend against Deakin but this one was more important, we were desperate for a win," he said.

"The boys were really happy, not every win can be attractive and a really nice flowing game, so sometimes you have to grind out wins and I think today was one of those wins."

Gungahlin's second again came down to Wanderers flat defence in the 49^th minute, after Bernabo-Madrid split the defence with his run. Fullback Tom Krklec found his teammate's feet, who from a tight angle slotted it bottom left to increase their lead to 2-0.

Wanderers coach Ulisses Da Silva said his side were disappointed but satisfied with their effort.

"Last week we talked about not being able to convert our opportunities and it's something we focus on most weeks," he said.

"The thing I need to reflect on and to remind myself is our average age today would have been 21 ... so sometimes the conversion of opportunities just comes down to experience, we will get better at it with time."
