Vikings were seemingly cruising to victory after amassing a 4-0 lead midway through the second quarter before Tuggeranong captain Sophie Gaughan was carried from the field with a potentially serious ankle injury.

Gaughan is due to get scans on the ankle to determine the extent of the injury.

The injury sparked Old Canberrans into life, and two goals in the final four minutes including the winner to hat-trick hero Gemma Bautista completed an astonishing turnaround.

"Our halftime talk, we really talked about what we really needed to do which was to hold our centre, check them and spine outwards, and just be able to distribute and make those basic traps," Old Canberrans captain Lucy Balfour said.

"If we hadn't done that, we wouldn't have been able to come back.

"Coming up for a five-four win [from] four nil down, and sitting on second on the ladder, It's pretty huge. Just telling the team that no matter what the scoreline is, we can always come back.

"That's something that's not really happened to the squad before. We've been, going through a bit of a rebuilding year last year and just to come back on top is pretty special."

Tuggeranong exploded out of the blocks and built a strong lead through a Helen Legge brace, and goals to Ellen Vahey and Ash Deacon before Gaughan went down. Bautista gave Old Canberrans a foothold with her first goal late in the second quarter before running rampant after the main break.

Meanwhile, next month's under-21s Australian Hockey Championships scheduled to be played in Sydney have been postponed as NSW comes to grips with a worsening Covid pandemic.

Hockey Australia will meet with member associations next week to discuss future options for the tournament. "Unfortunately because of COVID, the need to revise plans, dates and locations is something we are becoming accustomed to," Hockey Australia official Tim Cherry said.
