1. Jack Biilmann
After the launch of a new rock project, a global pandemic, a truckload of inspiration and a near sold-out full production show at The Street Theatre, Jack Biilmann returns to a Canberra stage. This show will see a more stripped-back performance of his songs from his third solo record Full Circle played out against the backdrop of Blackbird Bar. Local artist Kim Yang will be supporting Biilmann, opening the performance and preparing you for a night of the blues, roots, folk, Americana, and soul. Friday, 6.30pm. Blackbird Bar. 2. Raw Comedy
This is your chance to see the future stars of Aussie comedy at Raw Comedy's ACT state final. Raw Comedy is an annual Australian competition for emerging stand-up comedians held by the Melbourne International Comedy Festival. Some of the nation's finest funny-makers have cannonballed into comedy acclaim through RAW Comedy, including Hannah Gadsby. Hundreds of Australians sign up in the hopes they will be crowned victor. Sunday, 7.30 pm. Street One, The Street Theatre. Tickets are $30 from The Street.
3. Winter Wonderland Haig Markets
Warm up this Sunday morning with mulled wine, hot chai and firepits at the Winter Wonderland Haig Markets. Immerse yourself in an African drumming and dance experience and jam out to some live local music, all while browsing delicious cuisines, tasty treats, fresh produce, artisan products, crafts, jewellery and more. This is your opportunity to embrace the winter weather and indulge in some local craftsmanship. Don't worry if you cant make it this weekend - there will be another Winter Wonderland on August 8. Sunday, 8am. Haig Park. Free event.
4. ANU then, now and 75 years from now
Want to learn some more about local history? Join Professor Ann McGrath, Professor Genevieve Bell and Professor Nicholas Brown, with host Professor Mark Kenny, as they discuss the past, present and future of the Australian National University. It has been 75 years since ANU was established by an act of Federal Parliament. To this day, it is still the only university that has been created by the parliament and it welcomes you to come and celebrate this milestone and learn more about the university. This is just one of the many events being hosted by the university over the weekend with tours, talks and activities also scheduled. Sunday, 12.45pm. 5. Sesame Street Circus
This 90-minute spectacular designed to delight is sure to leave not just your child, but you enthralled as well. Sing and dance along with your favourite Sesame Street characters such as Elmo, Big Bird and Abby Cadabby with performers from Argentina, Switzerland, Brazil, Morocco, Spain, Africa and Australia this is a performance designed to amaze. Stay warm and toasty under heated big top at Majura Park and enjoy this production, which was written and produced here in Australia. The circus is here until August 15 so time is running out to see it. Saturday, 10.30am, 2.30pm and 6.30pm, and Sunday, 10.30am and 2.30pm. Majura Park Shopping Centre.
