The federal government is under increasing pressure to make public daily vaccination rates for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

National figures show just over 29 per cent of Indigenous Australians have had one vaccine dose and 15 per cent are double-dosed.

This data is not included in the federal government's daily vaccination updates.

Meanwhile, nearly half of all Australians aged 16 and older have had one jab and just over 26 per cent are fully vaccinated.

Indigenous communities in NSW's west and northwest want more vaccines and protective equipment, with 35 new cases in those areas on Monday.

Walgett and Brewarrina Aboriginal Medical Service's acting chief executive Katrina Ward has warned the primary health network is running short of masks.

"The community is fearful (about the vaccines) and there still is some reluctance, but they are realising that this is the best means of protection we've got," she told ABC radio.

"I'm very concerned."

The federal government is under pressure, including from Labor, to report Indigenous jab rates in the same way as wider vaccine figures.

Indigenous Australians Minister Ken Wyatt confirmed the government had the figures and shared them with states and territories.

He did not commit to ensuring they were published each day, but said it was possible.

Mr Wyatt defended the vaccine rollout in Aboriginal communities, after the previous lack of transmission among First Nations people was touted as a government success.

Of 6600 people across the Walgett and Bourke local government areas, 13 per cent were fully vaccinated and 34 per cent had received one dose.

The minister blamed the media and social media for feeding vaccine hesitancy.

"You should not be fearful. This is about protecting you, your community, your family and your elders," he said.

He added some Aboriginal people from southwestern Sydney had gone home to their communities and brought the virus with them.

"We now have to go on a very proactive footing of ensuring that people get tested, have their vaccination and stay home," he said.

"People need to understand the cultural framework in which our people operate."

There were also fears NSW's statewide lockdown and a more punitive approach to rule breakers meant Aboriginal people would be over-police.

The state's Aboriginal Legal Service said parts of Sydney with high Indigenous populations copped the most fines last year.

"We've seen how determined Aboriginal communities are to protect one another," deputy chief executive Anthony Carter said.

"We are extremely concerned about the potential for Aboriginal people to again be targeted."
