There are now 83 cases active in the Canberra community.

A total of nine cases are still under investigation, including five reported on Thursday.

ACT deputy chief health officer Dr Vanessa Johnston said 43 per cent of Canberra's cases are in people under the age of 17, and 46 per cent of cases are people aged 18 to 44.

There were 8796 tests conducted in the past 24 hours and 6937 test results provided in to 9am Thursday.

There are now more than 240 exposure sites, with a childcare centre, general practice and numerous public transport routes now identified as close contact sites.

A new testing site will be established at the Erindale Active Leisure Centre which will be aimed at "targeted testing" and is hoping to ease pressure from other sites around the city.

The site is not yet open to the public and high-risk contacts will be diverted there for priority testing.

Staff and families affected by the early learning centre exposure site can access testing at the Weston walk-in centre, which will be closed to the broader public between 1pm to 4pm on Thursday.

Meanwhile, the pressure of the Delta outbreak on health workers has continued to mount with more than 600 now in isolation.

Health Minister Rachel Stephen-Smith said the University of Canberra and Gungahlin pathology collection centres have temporarily closed due to the staffing shortage.

"Patients with appointments are being contacted and redirected to other collection centres," she said.

There are now 23 cases linked to Lyneham High School and six linked to Gold Creek School. Thirteen cases are linked to Fiction nightclub, four are associated with Belconnen Basketball Centre, three are linked to the Downer Community Centre and two with Assembly bar.

Young people are being hugely affected by the outbreak, with the median age of those infected 19.5 years.

ACT chief health officer Dr Kerryn Coleman said on Wednesday that the youngest person infected was a three-year-old.

Several schools have been implicated in the outbreak including Lyneham High School, Gold Creek School and Lake Ginninderra College.

Goodstart Early Learning in Turner has also been listed as a close-contact exposure site.
