At the end of the ACT lockdown, the masthead's newsroom, sales and circulation staff will relocate from their current building in Fyshwick to new offices in Civic.
The move to the city is a homecoming for The Canberra Times, which began publishing on Mort Street in Braddon in 1926.
Printing of the newspaper moved to Fyshwick in 1964, before the editorial and advertising teams relocated in 1987 to a purpose-built headquarters prominently positioned on the corner of Pirie and Newcastle streets.
Decommissioning of the Fyshwick printing press in 2020 created the opportunity for a return to Canberra's commercial and administrative centre.
The Canberra Times' new office will be in one of the CBD's premier office buildings at 121 Marcus Clarke Street.
The location on the western side of the CBD is close to the ANU as well as major commercial firms and public service departments. It also brings the newsroom close to the law courts and the ACT Assembly, where existing bureaus will be maintained.
The Canberra Times is part of ACM, Australia's largest independent media company.
ACM managing director Tony Kendall said the move from Fyshwick to Civic demonstrated the company's continuing commitment to playing a key role in the daily life of the national city.
"This move positions The Canberra Times strongly for the future," Mr Kendall said.
"We're seeing right now the important role our journalism is playing as the ACT goes through lockdown.
"With the support of our fast growing family of digital subscribers, our loyal print readers and our valued advertising partners, The Canberra Times will continue to keep Canberrans informed and connected.

"I know how excited the entire team will be to return to work in new offices located in the heart of Canberra."
ACM, which is privately owned by Antony Catalano and Alex Waislitz's ASX-listed Thorney Investment Group, is considering all options for the landmark site of more than 20,000 square metres at Fyshwick.
The company celebrated a key digital milestone last month when its major mastheads, led by The Canberra Times, reached the 100,000 mark in digital subscribers.
The company also recently launched a national campaign, ACM ConnectNow, to encourage major advertising agencies and their clients to use the nation-wide reach of the ACM network to connect with its highly engaged print and digital audiences of 6.4 million a month.
