This comes after Racing Victoria decided to make vaccinations compulsory for everyone working in the industry.

Given Racing NSW handles the licences for the industry in the ACT, Canberra Racing will adopt the same approach.

Racing NSW chief steward Marc Van Gestel said they highly recommended all of their participants get vaccinated against the coronavirus, but at this stage they weren't making it compulsory.

But as the lockdowns in NSW and the ACT start to ease that position could change depending on what restrictions governments put in place.

If vaccinations are needed to attend mass gatherings, like race meetings, then it could become a requirement to enable the industry to return racing in front of crowds.

"We highly recommend that all our participants be vaccinated and get vaccinated as soon as possible," Van Gestel said.

"At this point in time we haven't mandated that for our participants, but we're watching the government notices in terms of their positioning of vaccinations and whether it's necessary to be fully vaccinated to attend venues, which may include race meetings."

Thoroughbred Park's currently forced to hold their meetings at Queanbeyan, such as the one this Friday, because the ACT government hasn't given them exemptions for key race-day personnel - like jockeys and TV crew - to come into Canberra from NSW.

Canberra Racing chief executive Andrew Clark said the topic of vaccinations was being discussed both at Canberra Racing and Racing Australia levels, but the ACT governing body was yet to adopt a position.

"Racing NSW licence all of our participants so what we would be doing would be in lockstep with what they do," he said.

"We're still discussing the matter with them now."
