Souttar has excelled at Championship club Stoke City and has also become a Socceroos fixture since his 2019 debut, with reports in the UK his club performances have caught the eye of the likes of Everton and Tottenham.

The 22-year-old is expected to again play a key role in the heart of defence when the Socceroos face Oman in their latest World Cup qualifier, which kicks off at 5.30am AEDT Friday.

"There were a few whispers just even before we went to the Olympics about a few Premier League clubs (showing interest in Souttar), and he's gone back to Stoke City, he's doing exceptionally well," Arnold said.

"He's got a coach that trusts him enormously in Michael O'Neill.

"But if you look at Harry, he's probably one of the only players I had at the Olympics that had anywhere near matched all the other players (from other teams) that were at the Olympics for match minutes - (he was) actually on the field every week and playing.

"Harry's got so much potential. He's great to have around. He's got such a great mentality and he's such a great kid.

"It's fantastic for Australia, and for Harry, if those type of things happen."

There are currently no Australians playing in the Premier League after Mat Ryan's departure for Real Sociedad.

Meanwhile Arnold is pleased with Tom Rogic's recent resurgence under Ange Postecoglou at Celtic.

The playmaker will head into the two qualifiers against Oman and Japan with confidence after delivering the match-winning assist in Celtic's recent away win over Aberdeen.

"Tommy's doing very well, I had a good chat to him last night and he's very happy and everything's going well for him," Arnold said.

"Tommy's a kid where if his personal life his going great then his professional life then goes great and vice versa.

"So it's great to see that he looks extremely fit, he's had a lot of minutes, and working under Ange is great and he's very happy."
