Drought, fires, and COVID have changed the way we live, yet in many cases, hard times help bring communities together. However, with things taking a toll on people's health, now is the perfect opportunity to start raising funds and awareness, and of course, start growing that magnificent 'mo'.
Movember co-founder, Travis Garone, said if there's ever been a time to support and take part in Movember, it was now.
"As we kick off another momentous Movember campaign on our 18th birthday, I'm so grateful for the millions of Mo Bros and Mo Sisters who've rallied to raise much-needed funds and help change the face of men's health," he said.
"It's been another tough year for people everywhere, so we're calling on Aussies to close out 2021 by having fun and doing good this Movember because whatever you grow will save a bro."
Movember is the leading charity changing the face of men's health. It not only helps to raise awareness and provide much-needed funds for men's mental health but also continues to rally support for causes including suicide prevention, prostate cancer and testicular cancer, all of which Travis said were significant in the battle for men's health.
"Our work in mental health and suicide prevention, prostate cancer and testicular cancer has come a long way, with over 1250 projects funded by Movember globally to date, but there's still more work to be done," he said.
"In Australia, one in six men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime, and testicular cancer is the most common cancer in young men, and sadly, three out of four suicides are men.
"We need your help to reach our goals to reduce the number of men dying prematurely by 25 per cent and halve the number of deaths from prostate and testicular cancer by 2030."
The Movember website has a wealth of information regarding the causes it supports, along with an amazing number of resources for everyone looking to take part in Movember. These include details on fundraising and how to get involved, tips on hosting Movember parties (both online and in-person), challenges you can compete in, and plenty of ideas for social media.
Beginning in 2003, Movember was created when Travis and his mate, Luke Slattery, recruited 30 guys willing to take up the challenge to bring back the mighty moustache.
