A short, sharp fundraiser between August 24 and October 4, the event encouraged Canberrans to make a contact-free donation online or in-store at participating Supabarns.

Hands Across Canberra CEO Peter Gordon said the funds would be welcome relief for local charities and thanked local businesses, especially Supabarn, for their support.

"We are working closely with the local community sector, so we understand the pressures they are under to keep up with demands and to diversify as they reach capacity due to the pandemic," he said.

Supabarn Supermarkets general manager Theo Koundouris praised Hands Across Canberra - and the broader community - for supporting 300 local charities.

"It's a heart-warming feeling to see our local community supporting each other in a time of need," Mr Koundouris said.

"I don't think there is anyone who hasn't felt the pressures of the lockdown in some form over these past months, however some have had to face harder struggles than others.

"So, to see so many of our customers giving what they can to help is a wonderful thing for us to witness and be a part of."
