But that's nothing compared to the pride former ACT Comets batter Peter Solway will feel when he watches his daughter Abby Solway add another chapter to the family's sporting legacy.
A message that came "out of nowhere" has seen the 18-year-old Queanbeyan product join the Canberra Capitals on a development contract ahead of the WNBL season.
Solway's father is one of the greatest Canberra cricketers in history. His 339 in the summer of 1989-90 remains the highest score in ACT first grade. He has more runs and more wins than anyone - and his two sons in Queanbeyan duo Dean and Mark are climbing those lists in their own right.
MORE CAPITALS NEWS:
Now the family will trade baggy blues and cricket bats for basketballs and Capitals shirts, all so they can watch the youngest chase a childhood dream.
Because not so long ago Solway chased photos with basketball icons like Lauren Jackson and Carrie Graf after watching Capitals games as a kid.
"I have plenty of photos with Graffy and Lauren Jackson and all of the Caps girls growing up. I wouldn't miss a game," Solway said.
"I went along with my family all the time so it's exciting to be a part of it. My family have always been really excited and supportive so I'm sure they'll be going to every game too.
"I was chilling in lockdown, not doing much. Out of nowhere [Capitals coach Paul Goriss] messaged me and said 'we want you to come along to a few trainings'. I wasn't sure if it was going to be short-term or long-term and then he just asked me to stay on board and sign so I was pretty excited."
Solway had a stint in junior college in the United States before returning home, when Goriss jumped at the chance to add the prospect to a development stable including Casey Samuels and Bronte Corke.
"Obviously we want to develop a pathway for local Canberra female athletes to be a part of the Caps," Goriss said.
"She's one of the ones that's in the up and coming talent, she's fitted in great, works really hard and has attended all of our sessions. Hopefully she can be one of our next Canberra girls to be a Capital."
The Capitals are one month away from their season opener against the Sydney Flames at Sydney Olympic Park on December 5, before a return bout in front of what could be a full house at the National Convention Centre a week later.
Canberra could enter the season without an official pre-season fixture under their belt due to border restrictions, while Goriss says the Capitals will be prepared for any late changes to the competition fixture as officials deal with ongoing COVID-19 concerns.
"We may try and get one [pre-season game] somewhere along the way. We don't want to play Sydney purely because we've got them three times in the first month," Goriss said.
"It's trying to work out who we can play with border restrictions and where we can travel to to play any pre-season games.
"We've just got to be flexible and adaptable [throughout the season] because as borders open and borders stay shut, there may be some changes within the draw. That'll come probably in the first month of the season, especially with SA and Victoria opening up their borders more."
Former championship-winner Kelly Wilson linked up with the squad on Tuesday while WNBA import Brittney Sykes is due to arrive in Canberra this weekend.
"Once Sykes is here we'll have everyone in here and it'll be full tilt into pre-season," Goriss said. "This is week three and things have been going great. It's a good bunch of girls, good chemistry, working hard. We're going three sessions a day except for Wednesday, so the work ethic has been really high so far."
