The tour is one of the first opportunities for the prime minister to visit key electorates since the Delta variant outbreak in eastern states led to widespread lockdowns.

It comes as NSW and Victoria reopened their borders for free travel for the fully vaccinated.

Mr Morrison will travel around NSW and Victoria after arriving back in Australia on Thursday following his trip to the Glasgow climate summit and the G20 leaders' gathering.

He said he was thankful Australia's international border restrictions had eased to avoid a two-week stint in quarantine.

"It would have been my fifth quarantine in the last 12 months, so I think it's tremendous," he told reporters in Sydney.

The federal election is slated to be held no later than May 21 next year.

Activities such as electorate visits and meeting with voters have largely been avoided this due to quarantine requirements, border closures and COVID restrictions.

Opposition Leader Anthony Albanese said he was ready for an election to be called imminently.

"Today's headline, frankly, the prime minister is going to visit people and talk to people, on the front page of the newspaper. Well that's something I do every day," Mr Albanese told reporters on Friday.

"I'll continue to engage next week, the week after and every day in the lead-up to the election whenever it's called. I'm quite happy if the prime minister calls it for December 11."

While the election is expected to be held either in March or May next year, Labor has been preparing for a possible 2021 poll.

Since parliament rose after its most recent sitting session last week, Mr Albanese has visited at least nine electorates in NSW and Victoria.

They include Deputy Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce's NSW seat of New England and the marginal seats of Dobell and Robertson on the state's Central Coast.
