Up to 60mm is forecast to fall in the region this weekend, which could put the meeting and its $265,000 worth of prizemoney in jeopardy, depending on when the skies open.

The Queanbeyan track has been aerated and was rated a soft 5 on Thursday morning. It was expected to dry out further leading into the weekend before the rain arrives.

"We've put the knives through the track which basically aerates it so theoretically the surface water shouldn't happen once we've done that," Queanbeyan Racing Club chief Brendan Comyn said.

"We did that at the end of last week so that's preparing for rain. You don't want three inches, that's going to stuff everything.

"On Sunday, if we do get rain late in the day then that'll be okay. It's supposed to start at about 5 o'clock on Saturday and go til 11 o'clock in the morning on Sunday.

"That's the majority of the heavy stuff. If that's not too bad we're a chance. It depends which forecast you look at, Sunday appears to be the worst and Saturday, the one I prefer to look at, is it's going to start raining about 5 o'clock and rain most of the night. That'll make it pretty interesting."

Canberra stayer Upper House has accepted to run in the $45,000 Queanbeyan Cup, and will carry the 61kg topweight after his second placing in last week's Snake Gully Cup at Gundagai.

That meeting was also threatened by heavy rain, but managed to survive.

"The key about Gundagai which is possibly similar to us with the showcase meeting is there's extra prizemoney," Comyn said.

"It was pouring all day while they were racing. You can't do much about the weather."
