Santa Claus and White Booma visited the Deakin Court shopping centre in secret, on this day in 1971.
He visited the centre to install a new mailbox for Christmas letters.

For the six years prior a similar mailbox had been put outside the Deakin Post Office by the postmistress, Mrs W. George, but last year it was removed by the district postal manager as a "non-approved arrangement".
But on this year, Mrs George said she had nothing to do with the mailbox.
"It's between the kids and Santa Claus," she said.
Because the mailbox was off the post office premises this year, she did not think it would be removed.
Mrs George did know that all correspondence from the children would be acknowledged by Santa Claus personally.
