Gordon man Kyle Wilson, 23, appeared in the ACT Magistrates Court on Thursday, when he was formally charged with attempting to possess a marketable quantity of an unlawfully imported drug.

He did not apply for bail and was remanded in custody.

In a statement issued a short time earlier, ACT Policing said Australian Border Force officers in Sydney had intercepted a package earlier this month.

The matter was referred to police after initial testing of the consignment indicated it contained cocaine.

The drugs were removed and replaced with an inert substance before the package was forwarded to an address in Gordon.

On Wednesday, detectives from the drugs and organised crime team, and the bikie-busting Taskforce Nemesis, raided the Gordon property and arrested Mr Wilson.

In court on Thursday, Legal Aid duty lawyer Solitaire Zahnleiter said Mr Wilson was not ready to enter a plea to the charge.

She indicated he might apply for bail in three weeks.

Federal prosecutor Natasha Purvis asked Chief Magistrate Lorraine Walker to mark Mr Wilson as a prisoner at risk, saying he had told police he feared for his safety as a result of the drugs being seized.

Ms Walker said Mr Wilson should tell prison officers if he had any concerns.

Mr Wilson is due to appear in court again on December 16.

The 23-year-old's arrest follows Bonner woman Priscilla Palombi, 39, being remanded in custody on Wednesday over the alleged importation of more than $4 million worth of methylamphetamine.

That case is unrelated to Mr Wilson.
