It is sad news for one of Canberra's most-loved events, which was due to go ahead at Government House on Saturday, December 4.
The CSO said it had been a difficult decision to cancel the event, saying even if the weather cleared next week, conditions were not safe enough to install all the infrastructure, with the risk of vehicles being bogged and other damage.
After several months of COVID-related cancellations, the orchestra was looking forward to returning to the stage for the summer prom.
"While the CSO has considered a range of options, unfortunately neither indoor relocation nor postponement are viable due to current COVID-19 restrictions, anticipated interstate travel and the declaration this week of a La Nina weather pattern for the second year running," a statement from the CSO read.
"While this is deeply disappointing for our musicians, staff and audiences, we look forward to the fantastic 2022 season we have ahead of us.
"In the meantime, we wish you all a safe, restful festive season."
