Mills is in the hunt for the men's athlete of the year at the Canberra Sport Awards on December 2, and around the world the Olympic Games bronze medallist is lighting up the NBA.
He hit a trio of three-pointers inside the first five minutes to set the tone in Brooklyn's 123-104 defeat of Boston on Thursday, finishing with seven threes and 23 points for the Nets as they rose to the top of the eastern conference.
Mills has scored at least 17 points in his last four games as calls grow for the Olympic bronze medallist to be included in this season's NBA All-Star three-point contest.
"Patty was unbelievable tonight and he's just been so big for us this year," Nets coach Steve Nash said. "His spirit is incredible. His IQ and experience are amazing as well. Just the shot-making is elite. He does so many things for us and that kind of ties the whole thing together."
Brooklyn star Kevin Durant called Mills a "sparkplug" for the Nets.
"You hear a lot about gravity in our game, three-point shot, and he has a lot of gravity at that three-point line when you come off a pindown and somebody's rushing at him. He can drive and create so much chaos," Durant said. "So you know we're excited that Patty has done a good job as a bench player, and then come in as a starter too, and keep the same energy."
The ACT Sport Hall of Fame's class of 2021 will be inducted at the CBR Sport Awards, which will be held as an online event on Thursday, December 2. Register to attend by clicking here.
