The fire broke out about 11.50am on Tuesday, a Justice and Community Safety Directorate spokesperson said.
The spokesperson said AMC staff extinguished the fire before ACT Fire and Rescue arrived, and the detainee did not require hospitalisation.
"ACT Fire and Rescue assessed the air quality within the accommodation unit," the spokesperson said.
