Each year, the former US president lists his top songs, movies and books of the year and there are some indications people pay attention with spikes in sales and downloads.
Owusu's song Gold Chains, off the ARIA album of the year Smiling with No Teeth, made the list alongside another Australian artist Courtney Barnett, with Write a list of things to look forward to.
On his own Instagram account Owusu posted "Ayo??????? Obama says stream Smiling with No Teeth". More than 10,000 users have liked the post.
Perhaps Obama will catch Owusu live when the artist plans to head to the US for a tour.
After playing Byron Bay on January 1, he'll embark on a month-long tour with dates in Los Angeles, New York and Chicago among others.
He'll be back in Australia for shows in March. Alas there are no home town dates but there'll be shows in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.
Later in the year, he heads to Europe.
"I've always enjoyed listening to a wide variety of music," Obama said, "so it's no surprise that I listened to a little bit of everything this year."
You can listen to Obama's playlist on Spotify.
Thinking of visiting Genesis Owusu's neck of the woods? You'll need to know what's open in Canberra this Christmas/New Year period.
