Wilson is poised to bring up the milestone in the new year.

The 36-year-old surpassed Jess Bibby's record of 394 WNBL games two seasons ago, amassing a total of 395 appearances before sitting out the 2020 north Queensland hub campaign for the birth of her son Teddy.

The four-time WNBL champion returned to Canberra this season, marking a stirring reunion with Kelsey Griffin at the club they helped to a drought-breaking title in 2018-19.

Wilson is showing no sign of slowing down, playing a starring role against her former club Bendigo as the Capitals bounced back from a tumultuous week last Wednesday night.

"I'm just really happy Kelly Wilson was able to go out there and do Kelly Wilson things," Griffin said.

"I'm not surprised in the slightest. That's why I love having her as a teammate."

Griffin is desperate to play in her close friend's milestone game but is in a race against the clock as she continues to recover from nasal and orbital fractures.

The Capitals' win over the Spirit was inspired by United States import Britt Sykes but Canberra needed no extra motivation after the week that was.

A team that had been sent into isolation following a positive COVID-19 case within their ranks and were blown away by Adelaide on their home court days later.

Then coach Paul Goriss was stood down for a month following an integrity breach, leaving Kennedy Kereama to step in on the eve of the game.

The response showed the character of a championship contender. But the best part for the Capitals? Griffin says they're only scratching the surface of their potential.

"This team is different. I've played on a lot of teams, and this team is just different. Their ability to show up amazes me," Griffin said.

"Training-wise, game-wise, yeah the Adelaide game wasn't us, but they just show up and they care immensely from one to 15. What I've been seeing all pre-season finally translated into a game.

"There's heaps of areas we can still improve on. I think we're just scraping the surface of who we can be."
