A man drove a stolen car dangerously on footpaths and against traffic flow, narrowly avoiding pedestrians and a crash, before leading police on a pursuit in south Canberra that ended only when the car rolled multiple times, police have alleged.

ACT Policing said that at 3.30pm on Tuesday, officers saw an allegedly stolen Kia driven by a 24-year-old man on numerous footpaths across Gowrie and Wanniassa, narrowly avoiding pedestrians and cyclists.
Police allege the man's driving was dangerous and erratic, with the Kia travelling against traffic flow, narrowly avoiding a crash, before a pursuit began.

When cornered in a cul-de-sac, the driver allegedly rammed the police vehicle, causing the Kia to plunge through a fence and roll multiple times onto its roof.
The man, of Richardson, then allegedly ran from the scene before being arrested a short distance away.
He has been charged with 11 offences, including driving under the influence of methamphetamine, driving on a suspended licence, driving a motor vehicle at police and damage of a police vehicle.
After a routine hospital check, he was later deemed fit for police custody.
He will face the ACT Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
