A Canberra man who allegedly rammed his Corolla into the back of another car, triggering a major crash on the Hume Highway near Marulan in 2019, has been refused bail in the Queanbeyan Local Court.

The 40-year-old man had been extradited from the ACT to NSW, charged with 12 offences after a Southern Highlands crash in 2019.
Police alleged that on October 7 2019, the offender had been driving south, with a female passenger in the front seat of his Corolla, when at high speed he hit a Hyundai i30 travelling in the same direction, the two cars ending up in the trees on the median strip.
The female passenger in the Corolla suffered multiple fractures and had to be airlifted to Canberra Hospital.
The driver of the Hyundai, a man then aged 24, suffered leg and foot injuries and was taken to Goulburn Base Hospital. His two passengers, then aged 23 and 24, escaped with minor injuries.
The alleged offender driving the Toyota was taken to Goulburn Base Hospital for mandatory testing and tested positive to illicit drugs.
After subsequently failing to appear in court, a warrant was sworn for his arrest.
After extensive inquiries, he was finally located at a Canberra address and arrested by ACT police, then extradited.
He will face 12 serious charges including dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm and two counts of negligent driving, driving with licence suspended and driving with illicit drugs present in blood.
He will appear again in Queanbeyan Local Court on January 19.
