Comedian and host of the ABC's Gruen program, Wil Anderson, has described how a friend of his in Lismore in northern NSW had been in "tears" as flooding impacts the region for the second time in a month.

Anderson, who happens to live in the NSW Northern Rivers, took to Twitter to express his shock at the unfolding events.
"Talking to friend in Lismore. They are in tears. 'We can't do this again'," he recounted in a Twitter post.
"They told me stories of people they know who haven't been able to access any support money despite donations and government."
Anderson went on to highlight that it wasn't only Lismore being impacted by this catastrophic weather event.
"For those who only see the main disasters (like Lismore and Ballina which deserve the attention) there are dozens of smaller communities in the area that also don't get the headlines but are suffering the same disaster," he said.

Another to express his sorrow for Lismore was former Labor Senator Doug Cameron.
"The poor residents of Lismore! Reports say the levee has overflowed This puts Morrison's budget bribes in context. All short term politics with no long term strategy," he Tweeted.
Greens MLC Sue Higginson was quick to link the events on the Northern Rivers directly to climate change.
"Please wake up. We are in a climate emergency," she Tweeted.
"We are now in a hybrid cyclone. It's frightening. The entire warning system was wrong we are underwater again and being smashed.
"Experts said we would experience hybrid cyclone more regularly - the climate has changed. Sorry Lismore."
