1. Hamlet
To be or not to be? That is the question. Peter Evans' critically acclaimed production of Shakespeare's Hamlet is at the Canberra Theatre this weekend. Inside the glamorous court of Denmark in the 1960s, a family is torn apart by murder and betrayal. Featuring Harriet Gordon-Anderson as a young man experiencing grief in its most complex and profound state, this is a Hamlet for our time. Friday, 7pm, Saturday, 1pm and 7pm and Sunday, 4pm. Canberra Theatre Centre. Continues until April 16. Tickets from $58 from canberratheatrecentre.com.au.
2. Agora
Greek cultural festival, The Agora, is back by popular demand, bringing with it the sights, smells, tastes and sounds of Greece to the National Museum of Australia. Much more than a market, the agora was the centre of athletic, social, spiritual and political life in Ancient Greece. Taste delicious food, browse market stalls, or sit back and take in music and dance, including a performance from the Australian Hellenic Choir. The festival ties in with the museum's latest blockbuster, Ancient Greeks: Athletes, Warriors and Heroes. Saturday, from 10.30am to 4.30pm. National Museum of Australia. Entry to the Agora is free. Go to Eventbrite to register. Tickets to the exhibition are $28 for adults from nma.gov.au.
3. Odette
Off the back of Odette's sophomore album, Herald, the singer will take to UC Hub this weekend. Herald was written during a tumultuous three-year period after realising that being signed by EMI at 15 years old came with high expectations. Plus, Odette was also just dealing with the average things every person transitioning into adulthood goes through. The result is a record that plays like a coming-of-age drama minus the happy Hollywood ending. Friday, 8pm. UC Hub. Tickets from $40.13 from Moshtix.
4. Sammy J
The star of ABC TV and radio, Sammy J gets back to his musical comedy roots this weekend, performing songs from his ARIA-nominated album Symphony in J Minor and beyond. The comedian will sing, play, croon, belt, warble, purr and chirp until you kindly ask him to stop. Saturday, 7.30pm. Canberra Theatre Centre. Tickets from $45 from canberratheatrecentre.com.au.
5. Gotta Have Faith
An orchestral tribute to George Michael heads to Canberra this weekend. A 28-piece symphony orchestra conducted by George Ellis perform the best of George Michael and Wham! in Gotta Have Faith. Hear all your favourites including Faith, Careless Whisper, Fast Love, Too Funky, Too Funky, Freedom! 90, Father Figure, Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me and more. Friday, 7.30pm. Canberra Theatre Centre. Tickets from $49.90 from canberratheatrecentre.com.au.
