The capital's own Chloe Lincoln was solid in goal at Deakin Stadium, with a stunning long-range strike from New Zealand's Charlotte Lancaster the only blemish on the scoresheet.
Lincoln's Canberra United teammate, defender Emma Ilijoski, also impressed in the starting lineup.
Jynaya Dos Santos scored in just the second minute of the match before Sarah Hunter and Daniela Galic scored another two first-half goals for Australia to get the home side off to a sensational start, leading 3-1 at the break.
Kahli Johnson and Young Matildas skipper Sheridan Gallagher then sealed a decisive victory in the second term with a goal apiece.
"It was an excellent night of football for the Young Matildas," head coach Leah Blayney said.
"It was fantastic that Australian football was able to see a lot of future stars of our game in action.
"Every time they pressed, they pressed together, every time they went forward, they went forward together. That has been a theme of the camp and something that they put together on the park.
"On the positives, it was great to have multiple goal-scorers. It was good to see that we were able to get to goal through a variety of ways, whether it was through or out wide.
"The belief is making a difference in this team."
The coach said there were areas of improvement that they could address however.
"There's definitely a few moments where I'd like to see us a little bit more cohesive," Blayney said.
"This is in terms of the fluency of our passing and movement. That's the area I'd like to see improvement on as we go towards FIFA Under-20 Women's World Cup in August."
The Young Matildas will face New Zealand again on Sunday at 2pm at Viking Stadium following a fan day with the senior team from 9.30am, with admission to both events free.
