Toddlers and babies participated in a demonstration outside the National Capital Development Commission's main offices, the front page reported on this day in 1975, in a move to press the NCDC to build community meeting rooms in Belconnen.
Mothers had brought their children to protest with them, who crawled, cried, and splashed paint around, demonstrating to the NCDC exactly why the meeting rooms should be made a matter of priority.

One demonstrator said they were there to represent at least 150 families, who had resorted to hosting "playgroups" in their own private homes and garages, as well as others who wanted the community rooms for various other reasons.
Many of the NCDC workers had visited the demonstration to witness the toddlers clambering about, whining, and sitting on their potties, before retreating back into their offices.
After the demonstration finished, the NCDC announced it would build small multi-purpose community meeting places in new residential areas, as well as four small meeting halls "as a matter of priority".
