The 21-year-old's father, Richard, is in the Australian Army. He joined as a helicopter pilot and has since worked his way up to Lieutenant Colonel rank.
Green will commemorate the round when he run outs onto his hometown field - Manuka Oval - on Friday night with the GWS Giants.
"We know the sacrifices that members of our Defence Force have made," Green said.
"It will carry extra significance, no doubt, for myself and others ... that have family members in the Defence Force. But I think it's an important and poignant weekend for all Australians, regardless."
His father's job meant the family has spent a considerable amount of time moving, with stints in Townsville, Toowoomba, Darwin, Tamworth and Melbourne before settling back in Canberra.

And his father's own postings in Sydney and Nowra, alongside overseas deployments in Timor and United Arab Emirates.
While the round six fixture against St Kilda pays tribute to past, present and future Defence personnel, a lot is also on the line for the Giants.
GWS will look to resurrect its AFL season after a 1-4 start, and hush outside noise surrounding the future of coach Leon Cameron.
Green said the side was undoubtedly behind Cameron, and wanted to get its season back on track for him.
"Pressure is always going to come when coaches are on the last year of a four-year contract," he said.
"It's a little bit unfair. At the end of the day, the people out there playing are us and not him.
"We certainly are right behind Leon. I absolutely love having him as coach. We love having him as coach.
"So we're doing everything we can, I suppose, to relieve some of that pressure off him and hopefully get a win."
The Giants want their Fortress Manuka days back, reclaiming the success of their undefeated years from 2016-18 at the Canberra venue.
A boost to the squad's form will be co-captain Toby Greene's return, following his six-game suspension, alongside the recall of Braydon Preuss from his one-game suspension.
Greene will take back his place in the forwards from Xavier O'Halloran, while Preuss will reclaim his place at ruck from Matt Flynn.
"I think to some extent he relishes it," Green said of the eyes on Greene's return.
"It certainly wouldn't surprise me if he's first game back he does something like [kicking five]."
Isaac Cumming is also an option off the bench against the Saints, after the defender missed last round due to the AFL's health and safety protocols.
