But he knows they do not compare to the battles his granddad and great granddad faced during World War I and II in the early 20th century.
He grew up watching one of his heroes, his granddad, in Anzac Day marches, and that is what makes the timing of his return this weekend from nerve damage in his shoulder that much more special.
Neville will don the Brumbies' Anzac jersey - which bears one of the most prominent symbols of Australia's courage in Private John Simpson and his donkey - for his return match in Melbourne.
"[The march] was something we looked forward to each year and is still a very special day," Neville said.
"[The jersey's] awesome, there's definitely a big personal connection. And not just personally but being Australian, we're very grateful for the sacrifice people made in the past, and present."

The Brumbies' game against the Otago Highlanders on Sunday afternoon marks Neville's first Pacific game back since his injury in round one.
After eight games on the sidelines, the tall lock is ready for his return to Super Rugby.
One area of play he hopes to add to, especially against the Kiwi sides, is the lineout.
"The actual lineout itself has still been delivering quite a bit of good ball, but the full package that we like to bring to a game is not quite where we want," he said.
"But what better time to get it right then against the Kiwis."
The boost of Neville, alongside returning flyhalf Noah Lolesio to the squad, will be crucial in the ACT's next six games. And the Brumbies have the return of Allan Alaalatoa and Tom Banks still up their sleeve for next week.
