The ACT has recorded 1072 new cases of COVID-19 in the 24 hours to 8pm on Thursday, a decrease of 77. Previously, there were 1149 new infections reported in the capital.

Canberra hospitals were caring for 65 patients with COVID-19 at 8pm on Thursday night, including three people in intensive care. There is no one requiring ventilation.

This comes after the ACT recorded 69 patients the past three days, the second highest number of people in hospital since the pandemic began.

The territory's pandemic case tally is now at 103,220 since March 12, 2020. Infections officially passed the 100,000 mark on Monday.

A total of 846 reported positive RAT results have been removed from the total tally by ACT Health due to incomplete demographic information and/or legal declaration.

There has now been a total of 50 deaths in the territory. This comes after it was revealed most people who died with virus in the ACT had not received three vaccinations.

The ACT now has 5428 active cases of coronavirus, up from 5326 reported in the previous period. Of the new cases, 556 were reported through PCR tests and 516 as a result of rapid tests.

The first-dose vaccination rate for children aged five to 11 is at 80.7 per cent.

Meanwhile, fully vaccinated people aged over five make up 97 per cent of the ACT population. The percentages have decreased from 98.7 per cent due to a revision in ACT Health's population estimate. The proportion of people aged 16 and over who are triple-vaxxed is at 75.2 per cent.

Health authorities will scramble over the coming months to recruit new staff as the system continues to come under enormous strain.

The role of ACT government-led mass vaccination hubs is also under review as staff are needed in acute services.

There are also pressures on elective surgery, as authorities are still attempting to catch up on surgeries that were missed due to the COVID-induced lockdowns.

NSW has recorded 11,903 new COVID-19 cases and seven deaths in the 24 hours to 4pm.

There are 1,645 COVID-19 patients in hospital, with 68 in ICU.

Hospitalisation numbers are down on yesterday, when 1,701 patients were being cared for with 76 in ICU.

Of the new cases, 6,139 came from positive rapid antigen tests while 5,764 came from PCR testing.

Victoria has recorded 11,083 new cases, while there are 428 people in hospital with the virus.

This includes 35 people in ICU and five people on ventilators.
