But he was quick to ditch it and replace it with his own Canberra United jersey to make history in the first side headed to the Powerchair Nationals.
Stroud and his seven teammates had already made history before they headed to Sydney Olympic Park to compete, but they are hungry for more, and are chasing the team's first win on the national stage.
"We're all really excited," the midfielder said.
"We've been doing really well in training and it will be good to show it off to all the other states.
"We're looking at developing our skills and maybe causing a few upsets."
MORE IN CANBERRA SPORT:
They have lost to top team Hills United so far, alongside other Sydney and Queensland sides, but Canberra have another four games to secure their first national win.
Results are not the main focus, as it's their first foray on the national stage, and Capital Football chief executive Chris Gardiner said it was the perfect chance for the side to test their skills.
Adding it spoke volumes for the code that Stroud, the peak body's own game development coordinator, was competing.
"It's a big achievement," he said. "We're very proud that it has broadened the range of different forms of football that are available now in the community, and has been able to allow a group of talented players to participate and get profile on the national stage."
The team's games in Sydney will coincide with some big match ups back in Canberra's NPL.
Canberra Croatia FC will have the home ground advantage for their top-of-the-table clash against Canberra Olympic FC on Sunday in the NPLW. Both remain undefeated heading into the round four fixture, with eight goals proving the point of separation in Deakin's favour.
Another top-of-the-table fixture is set for May 1 in the NPLM, with Gungahlin United FC and Croatia to battle it out at the AIS. Gungahlin are leading the competition with a two-point buffer over Deakin heading into Sunday.
