Ah Jimmy, so much more than Hoot's sidekick. The comedian Jimmy Rees has put Canberra under the spotlight and pretty much nailed the national capital.

He's on his way to Canberra for two shows in July - so lucky he seems to know so much about us already. Except the bit about us being boring. That can't be right, can it?
In his regular TikTok evisceration of Australian cities, Rees turns his attention to Canberra and makes hilarious observations about our treasured icons - lanyards, roundabouts, bus shelters, the Belco Owl sculpture, cyclists, electric scooters, puffer jackets, the north-south divide and more. So many on-point observations.
"Constantly defending Canberra saying it's not boring, when you actually realise the main event for the year is an international flow show called FLORIADE!" he starts.
"And some great deals from the COC on Iron Knob Street."
(It really was a mistake changing the Direct Factory Outlet - DFO - to the Canberra Outlet Centre - COC. It's been a gold mine for every visiting comedian since.)
Flexing at the fact you're the No.1 city in the world for Wordle....whoop-de-doo
- One of comedian Jimmy Rees' many observations about Canberra
"Spotting politicians in public and not giving a shit," Jimmy reckons. Yeah baby.

Then there was "going to a wedding at Old Parliament House", "a bomb shelter that doubles as a bus stop - or is it the other way 'round?" and "flexing at the fact you're the No.1 city in the world for Wordle ... whoop-de-doo".
Rees was taken to task for suggesting peak Canberra was "a school trip to Questacon" - Canberra schools can hardly get in there's so many interstate school bookings.
"Constantly telling people Canberra has other things to do other than get adult movies and fireworks," Rees says. Fireworks, no.
Posting a pic to Insta from the top of Mount Taylor
- Jimmy Rees on peak Canberra. Yes, Jimmy, yes.
He also has a go at our weather and talks about a trip to Batemans Bay aka "Bato" - has anyone ever called it Bato?
"A trip down to Bato to escape the people in your suburb but when you get there, everyone's there from your suburb...." Gold.
And so many more more: "a large groan if you have to drive more than 20 minutes", "posting a pic to Insta from the top of Mount Taylor", "a hangover after getting loose at the Moose", "lane one form", "never surrendering when merging", "bogans", "talking about your APS level", "over-priced rentals" and "lime milk - whatever that is".
The former sidekick of the puppet owl on Giggle and Hoot, Rees has two shows in Canberra on July 24 at the Canberra Theatre Centre. The shows are at 5pm and 8pm, part of his Meanwhile in Australia tour.
