* Day 4 - A security car in the prime minister's entourage crashed in Tasmania. Four officers were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, and the PM wasn't involved in the crash.

* Day 5 - Mr Morrison faced pressure to disendorse his captain's pick for the Sydney seat of Warringah, Liberal candidate Katherine Deves. She founded the lobby group Save Women's Sport and had previously made a number of transphobic comments.

* Day 15 - Defence Minister Peter Dutton used Anzac Day to say the only way to preserve peace is to "prepare for war".

* Day 16 - The PM reaffirmed a net-zero emissions target by 2050 after the coalition's Flynn candidate Colin Boyce appeared to describe the pledge as not binding. Former PM Malcolm Turnbull lashed Mr Morrison's handling of the Solomon Islands security deal with China, stating "this is a hose you have to hold, to put it bluntly".

* Day 17 - The annual rate of inflation soared to 5.1 per cent, the highest level since 2001. Nationals senator Matt Canavan declared the 2050 net-zero emissions target "dead".

* Day 19 - Solomon Islands PM Manasseh Sogavare slammed the Australian government for failing to consult with the Pacific nation ahead of joining the AUKUS alliance.

* Day 21 - Labor held its campaign launch in Perth.

* Day 22 - Labor led Newspoll's two-party preferred vote 53-47. Resolve also had Labor ahead, 54-46.

* Day 23 - The Reserve Bank raised the cash rate by 0.25 percentage points to 0.35 per cent, the first rate increase in 12 years.

* Day 25 - Mr Albanese stumbled when asked by a reporter to name his "six point plan" to fix the National Disability Insurance Scheme. Independent MP Andrew Wilkie criticised the prime minister for saying independent parliamentarians were a threat to Australia's national security.

* Day 28 - The leaders went head-to-head in a second debate, with both drawing headlines for being 'shouty'.

* Day 29 - Newspoll's two-party preferred numbers showed Labor ahead of the coalition 54-46. Ipsos' poll has Labor leading 52-40, with eight per cent undecided.

* Day 30 - Mr Albanese gave emphatic support for a rise in the minimum wage to keep up with increasing inflation levels, currently sitting at 5.1 per cent. The PM stood by controversial Warringah candidate Ms Deves after she refused to apologise for transgender remarks.

* Day 31 - The PM labelled Mr Albanese a "loose unit on the economy" for saying pay needs to keep up with inflation. The opposition leader responded by calling Mr Morrison "loose with the truth".

* Day 32 - Former Australian high commission to the Solomon Islands Trevor Sofield confronted the PM while campaigning and accused him of mishandling diplomatic relations.

* Day 33 - The PM called himself a "bulldozer" regarding his toughness as a leader and admitted he would need to fundamentally change his approach if re-elected.

* Day 35 - The coalition campaign launch included a policy allowing first-home buyers to use 40 per cent of their superannuation (capped at $50,000) to buy a house. Labor quickly opposed the policy and a number of analysts said it could drive up house prices.

* Day 37 - A Roy Morgan Poll showed Labor leading the coalition 53-47 on a two-party basis. Mr Morrison was grilled on A Current Affair and admitted his infamous "I don't hold a hose, mate" comment was not helpful.

* Day 38 - Resolve polling found Labor's two-party-preferred lead had shrunk to 52-48. Mr Morrison set the internet alight by accidentally spear-tackling a seven-year-old soccer player at a media opportunity. Mr Albanese gave his final major pitch to voters at the National Press Club.

* Day 39 - Labor released costings showing its election promises will add $7.4 billion to the budget bottom line over the next four years.

* Day 40 - Former prime minister Julia Gillard appears alongside Mr Albanese in Adelaide, making an election-eve appeal to women voters.
