The Premier, Morris Iemma, said yesterday the NSW Department of Community Services website would start operating next month and would include all successful prosecutions made since new regulations were introduced in September 2004.
The Government expects about 10 of the 3300 centres in the state will be posted on the website to begin with.
"This will now make it easier for mums and dads to check if the child-care centres or preschools they're sending their kids to are actually doing the right thing," Mr Iemma said.
"The names of centres and the operators will be published if they have convictions against them or are forced to have major amendments made to their licence conditions."
The Community Services Minister, Kevin Greene, said centres would be named and shamed for failing to meet staff-to-child ratios, not implementing safety and protection measures, or not sticking to their advertised hours of operation. "I would hope that in the future we have no one in the list," Mr Greene said.
