The Blues dropped a fourth match from their last five AFL starts on Saturday night, losing to the Western Bulldogs by 20 points despite hitting the lead in the final quarter.

After kicking just one goal in the first-half, Carlton were booed off at the main break - the second time in as many weeks the passionate Blues faithful have expressed their frustration at Marvel Stadium.

Coach Michael Voss and the Blues were under the pump all week following a disappointing 26-point defeat to premiership contenders Brisbane, when fans left Marvel Stadium early.

Angst also flared mid-week after chief executive Brian Cook and midfielder Adam Cerra suggested Carlton's season wouldn't be a failure if they missed the top eight for a 10th consecutive campaign.

The heat will only intensify after Carlton slipped to a 4-1-4 record but Lloyd was keen to reaffirm the club's high expectations.

"We want to play finals. There's no doubt about that. We want to play finals, we're here to play finals," Lloyd told SEN radio on Sunday.

"We think we've got the personnel, we think we've got the structures and resources. So we want to play finals, that's our focus."

During the week, supporters, powerbrokers and ex-players expressed their frustration at Carlton's start to the season.

Billionaire Carlton powerbroker Bruce Mathieson unloaded on Cook, Blues president Luke Sayers and the club's "weak" board in a stunning broadside a day before the Bulldogs match.

Voss said it had been impossible not to pay attention to the scrutiny.

"It's hard not to when it's when it's surrounding you," he said.

"But for us, the answer is not looking external, it's looking internal.

"What we get to be able to control is how we train, how we turn up and how we get better and how we execute in those moments.

"For anything to sort of change, that's what we've got to get after.

"We'll try and strip away some of the emotion, some of the disappointment of the performance and go to work at it."

Lloyd went in to bat for Voss, the club's board and their ambitions in the wake of Saturday night's disappointing loss.

"The board has been outstanding in my time," he said.

"(He is) one of the best things to happen to our footy club, Vossy, with coming in and the leadership he shows.

"People can have their opinions and I accept that, but I just think the club's in really good shape and really focused on staying united and staying connected.

"I couldn't feel more supported. The club is in really good shape - we just need to get moving a bit on the field."

Carlton are two games through a season-defining stretch of matches, with in-form rivals Collingwood next up in a blockbuster at the MCG on Sunday.
