An elderly man has been charged with downloading hundreds of child abuse and bestiality videos after police swooped on his home south of Sydney.
The 80-year-old from Cordeaux Heights, outside Wollongong, was arrested on Monday after police seized a number of electronic devices from his home last month.
Police said they found 449 child abuse videos and 1080 bestiality videos during an initial search of the equipment.
Investigators found one desktop computer at his home that was capable of storing more than eight years of high-definition video.
Between March and late August this year, the man allegedly downloaded around 2600 files containing illegal material.
The man was charged with 12 counts of possessing child abuse material and seven counts of possessing bestiality material.
He appeared in Wollongong Local Court on Tuesday, when he was released on bail with strict conditions.
They include having no contact with any children under the age of 16 and not accessing the internet as well as reporting to local police daily.
He will face court again on January 17 next year.
